Jasmina schreef er al eerder een blog over, maar ook ik wil graag mijn ervaringen met jullie delen.E-mail is natuurlijk ontzettend handig en snel. Juist daarom is het leuk om ouderwets (ouderwets? Hartstikke modern!) weer iets met de post te versturen. Een brief of een kaartje, naar een vriendin aan de andere kant van het land of een onbekende aan de andere kant van de wereld.
De website Postcrossing [http://www.postcrossing.com] geeft je de mogelijkheid met onbekenden kaarten uit te wisselen. Hoe leuk is dat, kaarten sturen naar én ontvangen van mensen die je helemaal niet kent! Het is lekker simpel: Je maakt een profiel aan, voert je adres in, en dan kan je aan de slag!
Ik ben nog maar een paar maanden actief op de site, en heb nu 14 kaarten verstuurd en 15 ontvangen. Het leukste vind ik trouwens het sturen, misschien omdat geven nou eenmaal leuker is dan nemen! Kaartjes van mij zijn ontvangen door mensen in onder andere Finland, Amerika, Duitsland, Noorwegen, Rusland en Australië. Ik heb kaartjes uit onder andere de Oekraïne, China, Taiwan, Thailand en Duitsland.
Wat voor soort kaartje je stuurt ligt helemaal aan jezelf. Hema heeft leuk vormgegeven kaartjes, maar ik vind het ook heerlijk om op de markt te zoeken naar oude, ongebruikte kaarten. Ook maak ik graag zelf kaarten. Sommige postcrossers hebben in hun profiel lijstjes met wat voor soort kaarten ze willen ontvangen (of wat juist niet), maar ik vind het leuk om dat aan de creativiteit van de verzender over te laten.
Wat me trouwens opvalt: buitenlandse postzegels zijn veel mooier! Nederlandse postzegels zijn hartstikke saai. Waar zijn de tijden van prachtig geïllustreerde plaatjes als een soort kers op de taart? Maar ja, niks aan te doen. Meer reden om je kaart zo leuk mogelijk te maken!

A friendship book is a little book made for your penpals. They are usually decorated and the person who starts the book writes their name and address as the first person sending the book. People often include a list of interests as well. The FB is then passed around from penpal to penpal, and can often also become a way for one to meet new penpals. Most people hope to see the book again once it is full so they add their return address to the back cover of the book too, or inscribe "Return to Sender" on it. People also sometimes make FBs for someone else rather than themselves, in which case they write the name and address of the recipient on the front/at the top. Some people find friendship books fun because you can see where they have been in a trail back to the original sender/recipient.
It’s really easy to make them yourself...and it’s much fun.
- Use a colored paper and fold it. Than write FB on it
- Than start to decorate it, you can use deco tape, stickers etc. You can go all out and buy acid-free paper and scrapbooking supplies, or explore your attic or basement for magazines, greeting cards, wrapping paper, wall paper samples or scraps of fabric, buttons, beads, ribbons or yarn.
- Write on the first page your name and address (if you want the book return home when its full) and the name and address for the person you made it for.
- Add some papers in the fb, so other people can also write their name and address.
- Sent the fb to your pen pal, so it can start travelling around the world.

Have you heard about postcrossing? One of the things I am addicted to?? I
love to get real mail, and not only bills. With postcrossing i see a part
of the world. I love it…The goal of this project is to allow people to
receive postcards from all over the world, for free. Well, almost free! The
main idea is that: if you send a postcard, you will receive at least one
back from a random Postcrosser from somewhere in the world.
The element of surprise of receiving postcards from different places in the
world (many of which you probably have never heard of) can turn your
mailbox into a box of surprises - and who wouldn't like that?
How does it work?
First, the short version:
1. request an address from the website
2. mail the postcard to the address
3. wait to receive a postcard
4. register the received postcard in the system
The first step is to request to send a postcard. The website will display
(and send you an e-mail) with the address of another member and a Postcard
ID (e.g.: US-786). You then mail a postcard to that member.
The member receives the postcard and registers it using the Postcard ID
that is on the postcard. At this point, you are eligible to receive a
postcard from another user. You are now in line for the next person that
requests to send a postcard. Where the postcard comes from is a surprise!
You can have up to 5 postcards traveling at any single time. Every time one
of the postcards you send is registered, you can request another address.
The number of postcards allowed to travel at any single time goes up the
more postcards you send!
